A typical day at Temple Herdewkye Primary School:
8.45 a.m. Children start to arrive into the playground.
8.55 a.m. Registration in class.
9:00a.m. Phonics and reading.
Every student in every class uses this time to improve their reading. We do this first thing in the morning, as it is such a vital part of learning.
9:30 a.m. English.
Children learn using an approach called 'Power of Reading' this is where writing lessons are focused around a high-quality, age-appropriate book.
10.30 a.m. Playtime for KS1 and KS2
10:45 a.m. Maths.
We use a white rose scheme, where children learn through use of resources, pictures and discussions so they become fluent. Then they are challenged further to deepen their understanding through applying this learning in problem solving and give reasons and proof.
11:45 a.m. TIG-Time (Targeted Improvement Group Time)
The last 30 minutes of the afternoon children work on key skills - this could be different in different classes and different weeks. For example, if teachers feel children need consolidation on grammar, arithmatic, reading, phonics, times-tables etc then this time is used for Rapid Interventions.
12.15 p.m. Lunch
1.15 p.m. Afternoon registration
1.20 p.m. Topic Learning.
Topics are used as a way of inspiring children to learn about all subjects in the national curriculum: Science, Art and Design, , Computing, Design and Technology, Geography, History, French, Music, Physical Education, Religious Education, and Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Economic Education.
3.15 p.m. End of the school day.
